Philemon is a beloved brother in Christ, whose slave, Onesimus has run away from him. For whatever reason, Onesimus ended up in the city of Rome, where Paul was imprisoned. While there, he searched out Paul and became a Christian. Paul is writing this letter to Philemon to tell him of the good news of this servant's conversion and to ask him to forgive him for running away; Paul gently pleads for Philemon to allow Onesimus to serve him while he is in Rome.
15 "For perhaps he departed for a while for this purpose, that you might receive him forever."
